We don't recommend starting a consumer rental business from a two-bedroom, third floor flat in South London.
In 2016 our love for cycling turned into the crazy idea that we could change the world of family cycling for the better. Almost four years later, we're now married, have a son called Lucian, and instead of spending our weekends pedalling around Kent, we're working hard to grow the Bike Club and create more happy members.
Starting a business is no easy feat. Over our first Christmas we deployed over 100 bikes. Financing the bikes ourselves through loans, credit cards and savings I look back now and wonder what on earth we were thinking. We were both working full-time in London with our evenings and weekends spent building bikes, hand-delivering them using a mix of public transport and our mini-cooper.
Overwhelmed by demand, I took the plunge and resigned from my job in 2017. That Christmas we tripled our growth target and graduated to dispatching from a friends garage.
Since 2018 we've grown to over 25,000 members, raised over £850k and have over £5.25m in pre-sold member revenue.
It's been an incredible journey so far. We've proven the concept, and are eager to get the next generation on bicycles.
Join us on our journey to making family cycling more sustainable, affordable and enjoyable.
